TAANS LEGACY SHOOT 2025

TAANS Shoot 2025 – A Weekend to Remember!

The 2025 TAANS Traditional Archery Shoot, held on July 12 & 13 in beautiful New Annan, was an unforgettable weekend full of arrows, laughter, music, and community.
With 54 traditional archers from across the province (and beyond!) gathering on a property that simply cannot be topped, it’s safe to say this was one for the books.

Set on a picture-perfect weekend with blue skies and warm breezes, the grounds quickly filled with tents, campers, and a whole lot of excitement.
Over the course of two days, archers completed four full rounds—two per day—with each round consisting of 20 3D targets. That’s 160 arrows per archer over the weekend!

Registration kicked off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by a welcome speech from TAANS President John Cann. As always, John broke down the nitty-gritty with style, setting the tone for a well-organized and laid-back event.

Throughout the weekend, archers and families were treated to free lunches—hot dogs, burgers, and pulled pork—generously provided both days. There were 50/50 draws, door prizes, a silent auction, and the ever-popular sale of Lifetime License tickets. And of course, we can’t forget the legendary Milk-Jug-Shoot, where good aim meets great fun!

Campfire Vibes & The Best Story Trophy

Saturday evening saw a big old campfire come to life, surrounded by archers strumming guitars, swapping stories, and sharing laughs. A highlight of the evening was the competition for the Best Campfire Story, with the winner taking home the beautifully handcrafted trophy donated by Marla Webber. The stories were top-notch—what a way to wind down after a day on the range.

Stylish Tradition – TAANS T-Shirts

As in many years past, Phil Nelson took care of the annual TAANS Shoot T-shirts—and once again, they looked fantastic! The design was a hit, and the shirts sold out quickly.
Thank you, Phil, for your continued dedication and great taste!

The Black Hat (Bill Speed Award)

This year’s Black Hat (Bill Speed Award), given annually by the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers & Hunters to each association, was presented to none other than Bridget Benz, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to TAANS. The award was presented by Travis McLeod—thank you, Bridget, and congratulations!

Shoot-Off Champion & Special Recognitions

At the close of the weekend, category winners faced off in the TAANS Shoot-Off: three arrows, three targets, one ultimate champion. And in the most heartwarming surprise of the event, 9-year-old Tessa Stamper from Cape Breton Island took the title of Overall Champion. What a moment—WOW indeed!

The Milk-Jug-Shoot was a wild head-to-head race to the finish, and this year’s bragging rights go to Patrick Walsh & Phil Nelson.

The Longest Journey Gift Card went to Christian Desrosiers, who made the trek to be part of the fun. We’re glad you came!

Huge Thanks to the Hosts (and Helpers!)

A massive shout-out goes to Mike & Barb McCallum and their incredible team. The amount of work they put into making this event run smoothly—and the warm welcome they offered everyone—did not go unnoticed.
Thank you for hosting this wonderful event on your gorgeous property.

And a very special thank you to Glenda MacGillivray – our talented photographer, tireless cook, and all-around helper who seemed to be everywhere at once.
Your hard work behind the scenes helped make the weekend truly special. Thank you, Glenda!

Until Next Year…

To all the archers, volunteers, storytellers, musicians, and supporters—THANK YOU from all of us at TAANS. Your energy, your spirit, and your generosity make this event what it is. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again in 2026.

Congratulations to all the winners—and even more importantly, to everyone who came out and made it such a fantastic weekend. See you on the range! 🏹🔥🎯
