WA Traditional compared to AC Traditional divisions and TAANS
A try to simply explain the meaning behind the WA Traditional, AC Traditional and TAANS.
A short overview
WA stands for World Archery ⇒ AC stands for Archery Canada

Competition Format

Longbow Division WA & AC: The bow must measure at least 150 centimeters in length. This length is measured on a strung bow from the string nocks along the outer side (back) of the limbs. Only wooden arrows are permitted.
INFO: If you’re 50 years or older and want to register for an Archery Canada/Archery Nova Scotia tournament, you can choose between the WA Traditional division or the Traditional 50+ division. If you’re under 50, you’ll need to register in the WA Traditional division.

TAANS - Keep it simple
TAANS is focused on traditional archery.
As an independent organization, TAANS does not follow WA or AC rules.
Scoring is not the main focus; instead, TAANS emphasizes meeting, socializing, having fun, and skill development.
It is an inclusive environment, ideal for beginner archers and participants of all ages. While scoring does take place, it is secondary to the overall experience.
TAANS divisions are straightforward: Longbow, Recurve, Primitive, and Horsebow (introduced in 2025).
Equipment must be traditional—compound bows and crossbows are not permitted.
- Any type of arrow is allowed in all classes.
- No sights, range finders, plungers, or adjustable arrow rests are permitted.
- 2 arrows are shot per target.
