Events and Shoots
The master TAANS ‘Legacy’ shoot is held annually on the second full weekend in July. Additional shoots ‘TAANS Frolics’are scheduled throughout the year. Check our event calendar for details.
TAANS hosts traditional archery shoots, which can be multi-day events featuring 3D targets and novelty shots in natural environments. These shoots provide opportunities for members to showcase their skills, participate in friendly competition, and enjoy camaraderie with fellow traditional archers
No, non-members are welcome to participate. However, becoming a member supports the organization and offers additional benefits.
Bring your traditional bow (longbow, recurve or sell-bow/primitive)), arrows, and appropriate footwear for outdoor terrain. We recommend bringing water and snacks.
Absolutely! Our events are inclusive and beginner-friendly. Volunteers and experienced archers are often available to provide guidance.
Any individual, club, or group with access to a suitable venue can facilitate a TAANS event. If you have a location and are interested, reach out to us for more details. We encourage new venues to help grow the community.

Rules and Regulations
Participants must use traditional bows. No compound bows, sights, or other modern equipment are allowed.
The 2-arrow rule allows participants to carry two arrows at a time for scoring. This promotes fairness and efficiency in traditional archery competitions.
We believe “traditional” better reflects the roots and simplicity of this archery style, emphasizing historical and cultural authenticity.
Safety and Insurance
Yes! Safety is our top priority. We follow strict safety protocols, and experienced archers are available to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
TAANS events are covered under the ‘Federation of Anglers & Hunters’ insurance policy. However, recreational archers who do not hold full memberships can participate as a guest.
Waiver are mandatory.
Everyone can participate as a ‘guest’ in a TAANS event, but we would hope that people like to join TAANS to keep up the good work and spirit up and running 🙂.
